I first went on one of Kath’s baking courses about 4 years ago and have been on several more since, learning everything from making croissants & scones to baking with pre-ferments and exotic heritage wheats. You learn so much spending a day at Kath’s bakery ! I went from knowing next to nothing about baking to becoming very keen on bread making and now make loaves almost every day for family & friends. My favourite is spelt bread which makes excellent toast for breakfast! Kath gave me the confidence & understanding to try new baking skills and no one was more surprised than me when a loaf I entered at my local village show won not only best loaf of bread but also a trophy for the best cook in the whole show! So I cannot recommend the Veg Patch Kitchen bread making courses enough!

“Thank you very much for a relaxed, enjoyable and informative baguette and ciabatta course on Wednesday. Your bread courses really are a great day out with friendly and interesting people. I learned about baking, had a lovely lunch and went home with fresh bread at the end of it – marvellous! I’m glad that I’d done the basics course first. While the pre-ferments aren’t really difficult, I think it helps a lot to have a general feel for bread before taking them on.”

Having used a bread machine for years and having mixed results with manual baking, Kath was able to describe and show some of the subtleties I had missed. “My mother, brother and I had an absolutely wonderful time on your Bread Basics course on Saturday. At every stage of the booking process you were very fast to respond, flexible in dates and booking set up. The pre-joining info sent was very complete and helpful. The day itself exceeded all expectations – you were very engaging to listen to and covered a nice balance, from complexity in the chemistry of bread and flour compositions, to great practical advice on where to source the ingredients. You made bread-baking feel very accessible and gave us all the confidence to tackle new recipes but also have lots of fun doing it. We felt like the course was very tailored to our interests and experience. The whole pace of the day was relaxed, but also we packed loads in and the small group size made it feel very individual and friendly. The personal touches like putting on homemade cake and even sourcing gluten free recipes and dairy free milk were extremely thoughtful. The bread itself was extremely delicious! Finally, in terms of value, the price made this a massive bargain – so much better than any alternative I’ve seen elsewhere. We’d never hesitate to recommend the course and indeed pairing it with a stay in the immaculately kept and provisioned cottages, as a superb weekend away. Thank you so much for everything and we will hope to join you for another course, perhaps a full day this time, in the future.”

I bought some fresh yeast last weekend and made a batch of bread. My first with fresh yeast. Your advice on folding the dough in the bowl etc worked really well, and my wife appreciated less mess!!”
